Fotosintetica & Microbiologica Srl, a spin-off of the University of Florence (Italy), has realized that you can use every single part of the photosynthetic microorganisms.

The company, founded in 2004 by a research group coordinated by Professor Mario Tredici of the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, develops and commercializes systems for the cultivation of microalgae and they provide advice on their applications in agro-environment, renewable energy, functional food, drugs and natural cosmetics.

The photosynthetic microorganisms, rich of pigments, are used in various and different areas: from photosynthetic biofixation of the CO2, to the production of biodiesel, to the remediation of waste and contaminated water with natural methods as well as the use of algae in the pharmaceutical sector, cosmetic industry (creams, anti-aging products) and food (dyes and nutritional supplements).
