Fruitleather: what about a bag made using… fruit?

Last year we wrote a blog post about Orange Fiber (Italian), the project by two young Italian women who were able to creare a fiber recycling citrus fruits waste. An innovative and brilliant idea which is growing quickly and successfully. Good news are coming from The Netherlands as well. A group of students, designers and researchers from the Willem de Kooning Academie in Rottherdam worked hard to realize a fabric – very similar to leather – using the unsellable fruits and vegetables coming from the local markets.

The aim is to produce an ecological, ethic and eco-sustainable leather to be used by fashion designers to create bags, suitcases and wallets. For further information on Fruileather and to know if this new fabric will be presented on the international catwalks you can visit www.fruitleather-rotterdam.com.
